The Sportsmen’s AMF is pleased to announce that we are again partnering with that wonderful community asset and resource, The Valley Community Center at 93 Leddy Street in South Buffalo, to sponsor an after school guitar club for Kids!
Kicking off with the first licks on January 25th and running through mid-May, the club will be meeting on Tuesdays from 5:30 to 6:30. The club is open to interested students from fourth to sixth grade although space is limited. Beginners are welcome and the Foundation will see to it that guitars are made available to all students.
Heading up the club is David Internicola. A graduate of SUNY Fredonia, David has been teaching guitar full time for the past sixteen years. Since 1992 when Dave first picked up a guitar, he has run the gamut of musical experiences that range from Jazz, blues, contemporary, Christian and heavy metal. Dave has played with several bands, both original rock, and cover bands, and is currently a member of the local surf rock band, The Freshwater Four.
Dave enjoys teaching beginner guitarist as well as more advanced students and is looking forward to getting the club up and running. As David states, his goal is to, “Teach students the basics of guitar in a fun way while learning to appreciate the style and history of Americana music, with a focus on the song heritage of Buffalo and Western NY”.
Throughout the club season, our goal is to have other artists stop by and work with Dave and the students. Based on the response from the students we’re looking forward to an exciting program with a great season ending recital. We’ll keep you up to speed with progress reports and photos!
