The SAM Foundation’s next Emerging Artists Night will be Wednesday, Feb. 26, at the Sportsmen’s Tavern, starting at 7 p.m.

Admission is free for SAMF members and $5 for non-members; one more reason to join. Come out and join us in supporting new, live music!

Here’s our lineup this month, taken largely from they have to say about themselves:

ALEX McARTHUR: Alex McArthur is a jazz, funk, & classical vocalist/musical theatre performer based in Buffalo. She was the recipient of the JazzBuffalo Best Female Jazz Vocalist of 2018.

She and her groups have performed at many venues, festivals and events in the Western New York area and beyond, such as Pausa Art House, Buffalo Iron Works, Larkin Square, Lewiston Jazz Festival and the Queen City Jazz Festival.

WHITE HOT BRASS BAND: Playing a heady mix of trad jazz, street funk and some surprise covers, White Hot Brass Band is a portable, pocket-sized funk-monster. Equally at home playing unplugged pop-up sets or full-blown live shows, White Hot are a perfect party choice for any stage.

Regulars on the Western New York brass scene, White Hot features members of the Brass Machine, Banjo Juice Jazz Band, Gravy, Silver Arrow Band, and many more.

A fresh addition to the scene, the band hails from Rochester and Buffalo. Three horns on the front line are backed up by sousaphone and drums, and the result is a fun, free and funky thing – music to move your soul AND your soles.

Fluse

FLUSE: Fluse has created its own dynamic of rock music. Rock and roll originated from influences of rhythm & blues and popular music and has been constantly evolving. Combining genres and feels of all sorts, it is Fluse’s mission to continue to break the boundaries of what can be found in the newest decade of rock music.

Founding members Ricky Hoover (guitar and vocals) and Zachary Morano (drums) have been writing music for the band for years. Their musical identity is being constantly shaped in their writing process. Mark Woodworth (bass) and Sal Cappellino (guitar and vocals) have recently been a huge addition to the band; the profound talent in both the rhythm section and the dueling guitars offers an unstoppable momentum.

THE PROGRESSIONS: The Progressions are a lively mix of Funk, Jazz and R&B that is sure to get you moving. Formed in 2016, the Progressions have been hard at work crafting a sound and an energy that you will not find anywhere else. You can listen to their latest single, “Big Moves”, now on Spotify.
