Free Ticket Opportunities

I hope you’re reading this right away on Monday November 6th , so it can serve as a reminder that one of the best free ticket opportunities every month is Foundation Night with The Twang Gang at the Sportsmen’s Tavern. It’s always the first Tuesday of the month, so that means November 7th this month. It’s free for active SAMF members, so if you go every month, you’re saving $120 per year. And you’re paying between $25 and $35 per year, depending on the duration of the membership you buy, to belong to the SAMF… you do the math.

There are four other shows being offered this month, by the Sportsmen’s Tavern, the Sportsmen’s Americana Music Foundation and Buffalo Ironworks.

On Thursday November 16th at Buffalo Ironworks, Holly Bowling will appear. I haven’t seen her yet, but she looks very interesting. From the Ironworks website:

“Cast aside any and all expectations. Whether behind the piano on a windswept mountainous cliff, at a hallowed venue such as Carnegie Hall, or playing shoulder-to-shoulder with some of the most legendary musicians in history, solo pianist Holly Bowling subverts convention with virtuosic playing, emotional immersion, and a thirst for invention. Acclaimed by Rolling Stone, Billboard, Relix, and more and sought-after by icons such as Phil Lesh, Bob Weir, and Warren Haynes, she once again flips the script on her 2020 album and second reimagining of Grateful Dead staples entitled Seeking All That’s Still Unsung.

“There are shades of classical and shades from the Grateful Dead,” Bowling says. “A lot of classical enthusiasts might not give the Dead a chance. Many Deadheads may not like classical. Personally, I’ve always had two halves of my musical life. When I finally started to bring them together, it was something I’d been building towards for a lot longer than I’d realized. Bringing everything together, I’d love to open boundaries and help people discover something new.”

On Saturday November 18, Organ Fairchild will play the Sportsmen’s Tavern. It’s looking like this great trio is the next Buffalo band to break out nationally. Check out the Apple Music chart in early November!

Organ Fairchild plays the Sportsmen’s Tavern on November 18.

On Sunday December 3, the great Bill Kirchen will be back to the Sportsmen’s Tavern for his annual Holiday Show. I’ve attended many times; this is always a great time and really gets the holiday season going!

Bill Kirchen’s annual Holiday Show takes over the Sportsmen’s Tavern on December 3.

On Thursday December 7, Live at the Fillmore appears at the Sportsmen’s Tavern. Of course, the Allman Brothers’ live album is one of the greatest of all time, so this should be a rollicking night at the Tavern.

Live at the Fillmore performs the music of the Allman Brothers Band at the Sportsmen’s Tavern on December 7.

These free shows are a benefit of membership. Over the past bunch of years, we’ve given away hundreds of pairs of tickets to the members. So, pick out the one, or ones, you’d like to attend and send me an email at

Do it by Monday November 13th at 12 noon (a little earlier in the day than usual – there’s a Bills game that night) and I’ll notify the winners as soon as possible via email.
