On June 17, one of Buffalo’s best, sweetest and most engaging and talented singers, musicians and performers, Sara Rogers, was killed in a terrible accident, leaving her partner, family, friends and the entire music community heartbroken and in deep mourning.

Sara Rogers in The Last Waltz tribute.
Unfortunately, I can’t say I knew her all that well. I met her last year when she auditioned for Doug Yeomans and me for the part of Joni Mitchell singing and playing “Coyote” in The Last Waltz. She was incredible in that SAM Foundation production at Babeville. She instantly became part of our Last Waltz family.
Here is a tribute video Jeff Garbacz put together from that Last Waltz performance. You should be able to view it even if you’re not a Facebook member. LINK HERE.
I meant to get out and see her do so much more of her music and I would have loved to know her better as a person. From the outpouring of love that’s been expressed, it’s obvious that my initial impression of Sara was the truth. I’m very sorry, and on behalf of the Sportsmen’s Americana Music Foundation, I want to express my condolences to all who loved Sara.
